Johannesburg - Total income for the accommodation industry for the three months ended October 2009 dropped by 11.3 percent compared with the same time period in 2008, Statistics SA said on Monday.
Total income for the accommodation industry in October 2009 decreased by 11.2 percent compared with October 2008, the Pretoria-based agency said.
Income from accommodation for the three months ended October 2009 decreased by 9.7 percent compared with the three months ended October 2008.
"This decrease was mainly due to the decrease of 8.9 percent in stay unit nights sold during the same period," Statistics SA said.
Income from accommodation in October 2009 decreased by 9.2 percent compared with October 2008.
According to Statistics SA, the number of stay units available for the three months ended October 2009 increased by 1.2 percent compared with the three months ended October 2008.
The number of stay units available in October 2009 increased by 3.0 percent compared with October 2008.
The number of stay unit nights sold for the three months ended October 2009 decreased by 8.9 percent compared with the three months ended October 2008.
Statistics SA said the number of stay unit nights sold in October 2009 decreased by 10.0 percent compared with October 2008.
