Johannesburg - The wage strike by 55 000 clothing workers has come to an end, the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union (Sactwu) said on Thursday.
General secretary Andre Kriel said in a statement that the end of the strike came after a breakthrough with company Twilight in QwaQwa and Isithebe on Thursday night.
QwaQwa and Isithebe were the only two areas nationally where workers were still on strike after Twilight rejected the union's demands.
"Effectively, this now means that the 2009 wage strike by 55 000 clothing workers is suspended nationally and for all intents and purposes is accordingly completely over," Kriel said.
"The only outstanding next step now is for the drafting and subsequent signing of the national wage agreement to take place," he said.
