Pretoria - Public service unions will return to the Public Service Co-ordination Bargaining Council (PSCBC) on Wednesday to consider government's offer of a 6.5% salary increase, the department of public service and administration said.
Spokesperson Dumisani Nkwamba said the PSCBC would convene around 19:00.
"As the minister [Richard Baloyi] indicated he is calling on all the unions for the implementation of this offer," he said.
On Friday Baloyi said the final offer - the only one government could feasibly lay on the table - was a 6.5% salary increase and a housing allowance of R630.
While the 6.5% has been tabled by government, it has increased its offer of an additional R10 for housing allowances.
This was up from the previous offer of R620 and last year's R500.
The Public Servants Association had already taken to the streets in protest, and other unions had threatened a nationwide strike if government did not increase its offer.
