Cape Town - To date, World Cup soccer tournament ticket sales to foreigners reflect a sober reality, reckon Cadiz researchers Shamil Ismail and Jasmine Lin in a report.
According to the analysts, tickets sold so far are fewer than required to meet Tourism South Africa's target of 10m visitors this year.
Tourist numbers need to be 8.3% or 764 000 higher to reach this target. Only 335 000-odd World Cup tickets have already been disposed of to foreigners. A further 125 000 have been reserved by offshore visitors in the third stage of ticket sales.
If it is assumed that fans will watch an average of four matches, only another 115 000 foreign visitors will come to South Africa for the tournament, the researchers predict.
