Pretoria - Afrox engineers are still repairing its eMalahleni (Witbank) plant in Mpumalanga. The shortage of liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon continues.
The plant was shut down at the end of March owing to a leak.
Afrox MD Tjaart Kruger said alternative supply options, competitors and sourcing product from other plants are providing some relief.
But he acknowledged there is still a serious shortage and that the situation will persist until Witbank becomes operational again.
The cause of the problem was an internal cryogenic liquid leak within the air separation unit, which had damaged the covering and the isolation of the unit's cooling chamber.
