Britain fell deeper into recession than initially thought in the first quarter of 2012, upping chances that the central bank could inject more stimulus into the economy.
Cape Town - Problems with the production of plastic card driving licences leading to delays and cards having to be reordered are not to be blamed on the eNaTIS electronic system, transport minister Jeff Radebe told the National Assembly.
Giving a written reply to a question from Democratic Alliance transport spokesperson Stuart Farrow, Radebe said on Tuesday that the problem of incorrect information appearing on licences was attributable to human error.
"It is important to note that these problems are not occurring as a result of the malfunctioning of eNaTIS, but is rather due to errors that occur during the data-capturing process by the 400 driving licence testing centres throughout the nine provinces," Radebe said.
He added that the reason for the inaccurate capturing of data was either because the applicant supplied the incorrect information on the application form, or the operator captured the information incorrectly.
During the three months of July, August and September 2007, a total of 539 485 driving licence cards were ordered. Only 446 (0.08%) of these cards were reordered because of operator errors - 33 996 (6.30%) of these cards were reordered due to errors regarding fingerprints or photos of the applicants, which did not comply with the minimum requirements.
