Nuclear firm's CEO quits

Johannesburg - The Pebble Bed Modular Reactor company's CEO Jaco Kriek announced his resignation on Monday.

"Kriek has agreed with Dr Alistair Ruiters, chairman of the PBMR board, to assist with a hand-over process and will also continue to assist with specific PBMR activities in the next few months," the company said in a statement.

The company is a public-private partnership comprising the government, nuclear industry players and utilities.

"Under his leadership, the PBMR company has grown from a small research and development company to a global company that is capable of participating in international nuclear programmes."

Kriek said he wanted to explore opportunities in the energy industry, but did not have any immediate plans regarding his future.

Kriek is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (UK). He obtained an MCom (financial management) degree at Rand Afrikaans University and completed a management development programme at the Insead business school in France. Dr Alex Tsela, currently PBMR's GM: nuclear compliance assurance, has been appointed as acting CEO.
