Johannesburg - Acting Eskom chairperson Mpho Makwana on Tuesday confirmed the departure of CEO Jacob Maroga, whose resignation was accepted by the utility two weeks ago.

Maroga resigned, and will therefore not receive a pay-off from the parastatal, Makwana said.

"There is no golden handshake. He leaves like any other employee who has resigned," he said.

Makwana said, "Mr Maroga's resignation was clear and unambiguous and was accepted."

The manner of the resignation seemed to cause the confusion over the last two weeks - Maroga tendered a verbal resignation.

Makwana said that the law is very clear that a resignation, particularly by someone that holds a CEO position, does not have to be a written one, and that Maroga may have not been clear on the issue.

The prospect of potential legal action from Maroga, however, was raised by Makwana, who said that if Maroga feels that his rights have been infringed, he can take legal action.
