Johannesburg - The Chamber of Mines said on Tuesday that it was “delighted” by Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu's announcement of a review of mining legislation.
The chamber said that it has been working with the department on a number of forums to address some of the concerns that the chamber believes are impediments to the sustainable growth and meaningful transformation of South Africa's mining industry.
“We believe that the plans to remove regulatory uncertainties within the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act will also assist the mining industry to attract foreign direct investment,” said Zoli Diliza, Chamber of Mines chief executive.
The chamber expressed its support and commitment to the minister and the department in the implementation of the initiatives she announced.
