Mdladlana backs Manyi's two hats

Cape Town - There is no conflict between the job occupied by Jimmy Manyi as director general of the department of labour and his position as head of the Black Management Forum.

Giving a written reply to a parliamentary question asked by the Democratic Alliance's Andrew Louw, Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana said that Manyi is a full-time employee of the department. "He is not an employee of the Black Management Forum," he said.

He added: "His freedom of association is guaranteed by the constitution of SA."

Louw asked how the department will ensure that there is no conflict of interest between his two positions, and whether the minister has any systems in place to ensure Manyi's objectivity. These questions were not answered.
