Johannesburg - South Africa's power utility Eskom said on Saturday that the second unit at its Koeberg nuclear power station was running again after a shut down and would reach full output by Monday.
Eskom spokesperson Fani Zulu said the plant was stable and production was increasing on Saturday.
He said the unit was producing more than 50 percent of its output. Eskom said on April 2 that the unit had shut down automatically after a technical fault.
"The operators at Koeberg are slowly increasing its output. We expect that in the coming two days it will have reached its total output. The way it is ramping up now it is stable. We are pleased with the way it is ramping up," Zulu told Reuters.
Koeberg's only other unit has been shut for scheduled maintenance since January, which means the facility's total power capacity of 1 800 megawatts was out of service.
Each of the two units at Koeberg, Africa's sole nuclear power generating facility, produce 900 MW.
Eskom said its other unit at Koeberg would undergo refuelling, maintenance and upgrading, a process expected to be completed in May 2009.
