Johannesburg - Construction of the Gautrain route could cause power outages in many Gauteng suburbs, Eskom said on Tuesday.
The construction work, to take place during April and May, involved the removal of a number of transmission lines, Eskom said in a statement.
"Eskom needs to take out a number of transmission lines in the Gauteng area... The risk during this period is that if another transmission line is affected, there is a possibility of load shedding during peak periods."
Eskom added, however, that the risk of load shedding was low.
Areas that could be affected are Braamfontein, Robertsham, Mondeor, Mulbarton, Industria, Hursthill, Eikenhof, Cleveland, Observatory, Kelvin, Gressworld, Fordsburg, Germiston North, Kempton Park, Isando and Bedforview.
The work will proceed from April 4 until April 15, from April 20 to May 1 and from May 4 to May 15.
Eskom warned residents to avoid all installations and cables in the interest of public safety.
