Johannesburg - The Gauteng provincial government was looking into reviewing tenders to the value of R8bn, finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe said on Tuesday.
These included motorsport contracts and broadcast contracts.
The tenders were awarded before his tenure as finance boss in the province.
He said they would be reviewed because strategies were flawed and not due to any incorrect decisions having been taken.
Last month, the MEC reportedly announced that the province would in future name and shame companies who failed to deliver after being awarded government tenders.
He said information on tender awards would be published quarterly in line with the government's plan to create transparency.
Nkomfe on Tuesday launched the Gauteng Provincial Economic Review and Outlook which confirms that the province still contributes the bulk toward the country's gross domestic product - 35%.
South Africa's economic powerhouse would continue to do so until 2014, the report says.
It says despite the negative impact of the financial crisis, the gross domestic product by region (GDPR) is expected to increase from R640bn in 2010 to R750bn in 2014.
The province also benefited more than others from the 2010 World Cup as three out of the ten stadiums used for matches in the country were located in Gauteng and were used for 21 out of 64 soccer games.
