Johannesburg - A Gauteng summit involving all sectors of society will be held on a common plan of action against corruption, premier Nomvula Mokonyane said on Friday.
"We will pay special attention to promoting ethical procurement and introducing greater transparency in our procurement processes, so that more people in our communities are able to benefit from government contracts," she said in her budget speech in Johannesburg.
She said one of the greatest threats to democracy was corruption.
Further details on the summit were not immediately known. The province would also launch its own hotline at the end of July after finding that many of the calls to the presidency hotline concern the province.
In other matters, the province had done away with labour brokers at hospitals and had replaced over 2000 casual nursing staff with permanent staff.
Congress of SA Trade Unions general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi is in hot water at the moment for complaining that in spite of media reports alleging corruption, the president and cabinet were yet to investigate this.
