Johannesburg - Money was mismanaged at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), a department of transport report released on Tuesday said.
Irregular expenditure, inappropriate procurement procedures and unauthorised use of eNatis transaction fees were found to be the reason for funds mismanagement, the report said.
The report with the findings was released by the task team which was appointed by minister of transport Sibusiso Ndebele in February to investigate allegations into mismanagement of funds.
"The department of transport has adopted a zero tolerance stance when it comes to fraud, corruption and mismanagement. Any person found guilty of such acts must face the consequences of their actions," Ndebele said in a statement.
Ministerial spokesperson Logan Maistry said Ndebele would study the report and it would then be presented at the next RTMC shareholder's committee meeting scheduled for August 2010.
Further pronouncements on this matter will be made in due course, he said.
The RTMC was established for co-operative and co-ordinated strategic planning in respect of road traffic matters by the national, provincial and local spheres of government.
Over the past year, Ndebele received various complaints relating to allegations of mismanagement at the RTMC under CEO Ranthoko Rakgoale.
Maistry said the allegations were brought to the attention of the RTMC Board and the Ndebele ordered an investigation into the
allegations.
Rakgoale was subsequently suspended, and the department's deputy director-general of finance Collins Letsoalo was appointed as acting CEO.
