Finweek gets new editor

Jul 14 2011 12:55 Fin24
Johannesburg - Finweek magazine has named Marc Ashton, an entrepreneur and award-winning journalist, as acting editor.

Ashton takes over leadership from Peet Kruger, editor-designate of Beeld newspaper.

The magazine, which is undergoing a redesign and restructuring, is "well respected by professional and retail investors both in South Africa and abroad and it is a privilege to be able to take it forward", Ashton said.

"Finweek has produced the goods for the past 18 months, making a clean sweep of all the major financial media awards in 2011," he said.

Ashton has been named the Telkom Classic Financial Journalist of the Year as well as the Small Business Journalist of the Year for 2011.

This followed the Sanlam Best Newcomer to Financial Journalism and the Telkom Classic Small Business Journalist of the Year awards in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

"I am excited Marc Ashton has accepted the challenge of the acting editor position," said Willem Breytenbach, general manager of Media24 Weekly Magazines.

"Marc brings renewed energy and verve to the title, and with the support of a highly decorated team will ensure Finweek continues to raise the bar in the field of financial journalism."
