Johannesburg - The undersea Seacom data cable experienced problems on Monday and the services of South African internet service providers that depend on it for international access were affected.
According to Seacom’s website the cable, which lies along the east coast of Africa, went down between Mumbai and Mombasa from 11:19. The website declared that this was being investigated.
On Monday evening the mybroadband.co.za website reported it could take days to fix the problem. At the time of publication, Seacom had not responded to Sake24’s enquiries.
A Sake24 reader who uses MWEB as his internet service provider contacted the company after experiencing problems with his internet connection. According to a notice on MWEB’s website, issued at 11:34, international ADSL services were inaccessible in all its regions because of the Seacom problem.
At 12:28 internet service provider Afrihost noted on its website that it was experiencing an international connectivity problem and indicated that it was a Seacom fault.
But the alternative Sat-3 data cable was available.
