Directors urged to update details

Johannesburg - Directors of companies are urged to update their details on the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro) website as soon as possible.

In a statement, Cipro said the updating of directors' details was necessary before the electronic lodgement of change of directors function on its website becomes operational.

Elsabé Conradie, Cipro's head of communication, marketing and stakeholder relations, said that previously when directors were registered they did not have to provide cellphone numbers or emails. These were now required.

Kalahari Resources hijack

Cipro has been in the process of beefing up security at its database following the recent case of registered Cipro agent, Haralambos Sferopoulos, removing Daphne Mashile-Nkosi and her brother Brian Amos Mashile as directors of Kalahari Resources, apparently without the necessary authorisation.

In Friday's statement, acting chief executive officer Lungile Dukwana said: "Cipro is committed to combat unauthorised change of directors on its database and to establish improved communication between Cipro and company directors and officers.

"Cipro aims to pro-actively communicate with relevant company directors and officers to encourage good corporate governance, hence the implementation of the enhanced functionality in affecting changes to company directors."

Cipro hopes to have the electronic CM29 form, used to indicate a change of directors, operational on the website by October 8.

The new system will require that an email be sent to the relevant directors and officers, with a code to unlock the company directors' profiles online before it can be changed.
