Johannesburg – The Competition Commission is on Thursday expected to provide clarity on the alleged cartel cases involving the milling firms.
Companies involved in the milling of white maize and wheat have until Wednesday, June 30 2010, to approach the commission for possible settlement, after which the offer will lapse.
The commission will seek maximum penalties from the Competition Tribunal for firms that did not come forward, it said.
"This is a once-off offer for firms that may have been involved in cartel activity in the milling sector to come clean and cooperate with the
Commission," the commission said earlier this month.
Molebogeng Taunyane, communications co-ordinator at the Competition Commission, said the commission will only comment on the matter after the expiry date on June 30.
