steering committee has been formed to advise on the best use options
for the land at the Durban International Airport (DIA) site,
the minister of transport Sibusiso Ndebele said on Monday.
He was speaking at the Airports Company of South Africa's (Acsa's) annual results
presentation at OR Tambo International Airport.
"The department of transport remains responsible for the land and
we will ensure that due process is followed to obtain the best proposal
on the table," the minister said.
A Request for Expressions of Interest would ensure that all interested
parties were given the opportunity to submit proposals on
the land.
"It is our intention that this process is completed in the shortest
time possible in the interest of all bidders and the country
as a whole," Ndebele said.
Further announcements would be made in the coming weeks.
The
steering committee will consist of the department of transport,
the province of KwaZulu-Natal, Acsa, and the city of
Durban.
