Pretoria - The latest raid on offices of electrical cable manufacturers is one of several launched by the Competition Commission in recent years.
On Thursday the commission swooped down on the offices of Aberdare Cables, Alvern Cables, the South Ocean Electric Wire Company and Tulisa Cables.
The raids came after the commission in March this year initiated an investigation into the companies based on suspicions that they were involved in price-fixing, splitting the market and tender collusion.
According to a commission statement the companies supply high-tension wiring to power producers, municipalities and construction companies. They also supply low- and medium-tension wiring for households.
Last month the commission raided the offices of South African Airways (SAA) and seized information that could help in its investigation into collusion related to airline ticket prices during the World Cup soccer tournament.
The commission has previously raided the offices of cement manufacturers (PPC), steel manufacturers (Iron & Steel Works, Highveld Steel and the Iron & Steel Institute), tyre manufacturers (SATMC, Dunlop Tyres International and Bridgestone SA) and more recently SAA, Mango and the Airlines Association of Southern Africa (Aasa).
