Johannesburg - Those planning to visit fan parks during the Fifa World Cup will be able to slake their thirsts with beers other than the American brew Budweiser.

Budweiser is the tournament's official beer sponsor and the only brand stadium visitors will be able to buy.

But on Friday Budweiser's brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, confirmed that it would not be participating in the "Fan Fest" programme.

On the same day, Mail & Guardian reported Budweiser may not exercise all of its rights because, according to industry sources, the brewer does not have the capacity to supply beer to every initiative.

But according to Michael Torres, spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch InBev, the group had taken a strategic decision to focus only on the stadiums during matches.

He said unbranded beers will be available in the "Fan Fest" areas, affording brewers like SABMiller the opportunity to at least benefit from sales in those areas.
