Dubai - Airbus chief Tom Enders said on Sunday the next two years will remain difficult for the aviation industry due to the global financial crisis but expressed optimism over prospects of a recovery.
"We all believe that 2010-2011 will still be quite challenging," the president of the European aircraft manufacturer told reporters on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow.
"On the other hand, I think this show is encouraging... to see that there is growth, particularly in the Middle East, (and) Africa," he said.
"I share the assumption that 2010-2011 will still be difficult years. Nevertheless, I am optimistic that we will get through this," said Enders. "We are in a growth industry... We are used to cycles... We will get through it."
The aviation industry has been reeling under the impact of the global financial crisis, with travel demand falling since autumn 2008.
But Middle East carriers have so far bucked the trend, registering steady growth "driven primarily by market share gains on long-haul routes via Middle Eastern hubs," according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
