Johannesburg - Construction group Aveng (AEG) said on Friday it has agreed to pay an administrative penalty of R46.3m to the Competition Commission after the latter found that one of its business units, Infraset, had contravened the Competition Act in
relation to certain of its concrete products.
The group has also suspended two executives implicated in the
commission's investigation into anti-competitive practices in relation to concrete products, pending an internal probe into any misconduct associated with the findings of the commission.
Further disciplinary action may be taken depending on the outcome of this process, Aveng added. In addition, another executive has been placed on special leave.
"Aveng had already launched several initiatives prior to the Competition Commission investigation, including an educational programme in conjunction with a law firm to train senior executives in competition matters and the roll-out of an anti-corruption framework.
"In addition, Aveng (Africa) will develop and implement a formal compliance programme as prescribed by the Competition Commission in terms of the consent agreement," the construction group said in a statement.
