Johannesburg - The Steel and Engineering Industries
Federation of South Africa (Seifsa) on Tuesday said it and the industry trade
unions have settled on an 8.8% wage increase.
The increase is effective from July and will apply to all industry
workers whose minimum rates of pay are scheduled in the industry agreement
and to all apprentices.
Seifsa said the increase was calculated in accordance with the wage model
agreed with the trade unions in last year's industry agreement.
Accordingly, the wage increases effective from July are based on the
April 2009 year-on-year CPIX figure, which has since been replaced by the CPI
OER which excludes owners' equivalent rent.
The April CPI OER figure was 8.8%.
There are no further changes to employment conditions in this third year
of the four-year agreement, which will expire on June 30, 2011.
