Cape Town - The most pressing factor facing Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan when he delivers the National Budget speech is curbing the country's debt, DA finance spokesperson Tim Harris told Fin24 in studio.
He said South Africa's national debt is extremely high compared to other emerging economies.
Gordhan has done relatively well in containing, what Harris described as out of control increases in the public sector wage bill.
However, cuts on a national level must be announced in the budget address on Wednesday to reassure rating agencies that the country's debt is under control.
Harris also told Fin24 what South Africa needs to do to be a good value destination for foreign investors.
