Cape Town - A protest picket outside parliament on Wednesday afternoon when Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan delivers his National Budget address is likely to reveal the extent of the rift within both Cosatu and the governing ANC-led alliance.
The second deputy president of the Cosatu-affiliated National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa), Basil Cele, is scheduled to address a picket of unionists and non-governmental organisations protesting about current government policies.
Several Western Cape regions of other Cosatu-affiliated unions have indicated that they will be represented on the picket.
These include members of the Food and Allied Workers' Union, a Cosatu affiliate which, together with Numsa, has already distanced itself from the governing alliance.
