Cape Town - More than 2 000 South African taxpayers earned more than R5m each during the 2009/10 tax year, according to a document released by the SA Revenue Service and National Treasury on Wednesday.
One of the tables in the document lists 2009 taxpayers by "taxable income group", a scale that runs from A to Y.
The Y group includes those who earned R5 000 001-plus between March 1 2009 and the end of February last year.
The table shows this group included 2 046 people, who collectively earned more than R19bn in taxable income, and were tax assessed to the tune of R7.4bn.
The W and X groups include those who earned R1 000 001 to R2m, and R2 000 001 to R5m respectively during this period.
The W group had 39 372 members, and the X group 11 028.
