Johannesburg - Derek Bouwer has been entrusted with steering TBWA Hunt Lascaris as its new group CEO. Bouwer, who has been with the agency for 14 years as financial director and, since 2006, chief operating officer, became acting group MD when Gavin Herson resigned in August.

He describes TBWA as being "on track to deliver double-digit growth in revenue and profits".

Bouwer takes the helm as the agency has begun to rebuild its status as a creative leader of the South African advertising industry. It also made history by winning South Africa's first Black Pencil at the D&AD.

The campaign marked a turnaround in fortunes for the agency. Between 2000 and 2005 it was the top creative agency in five out of six years. Then began a three-year decline, to 11th in 2008. But last year it was back in top position.
