Johannesburg - The Habari Group has launched an integrated advertising agency called Big Wednesday, with Motorola as a founding client.
It's headed by Jason Cumming, former general manager of Mick & Nick and Jake Bester, award-winning copywriter from Ogilvy Cape Town, who will be leading the new shop in some major pitches for which it's been shortlisted.
Habari is an online, direct marketing and tactical activation business with revenues last year of nearly R50m and a staff of 55. Clearly, Big Wednesday fills a gap in the Habari portfolio of services, and they share a common philosophy of focusing on maximising clients' return on investment. "We are non-departmental and non-traditional, with a strong new media focus," says Cumming.
There's been a rush of new agencies hanging out their shingles in the past year, despite tough economic conditions. The list of winners at September's Loerie Awards included about 30 small shops, many of them unknown names.
