It's great that business leaders are stepping in to address bottlenecks in energy, logistics and other key areas. But this kind of intervention has its limits and doesn't absolve government of its duties, says Khaya Sithole.
Last month, business leaders decided to put up their hands and sign a pledge to work with the government in addressing major bottlenecks in energy, crime and corruption, and logistics. The commitment to help – in light of the multiple challenges the country faces and the effects on the economy – is a welcome gesture by a government that is resource-strained and technically and financially incapacitated.
The choice of sectors for intervention is possibly influenced by the intersectional nature of energy, logistics, and crime and corruption on the country’s entire economic architecture.
