Sixty60, Shoprite's on-demand delivery service for its Checkers brand, is piloting a new version of the app, which allows customers to shop for more than 10 000 larger products from its Hyper division, from small appliances to home electronics.
SA's largest retailer will also still provide same day delivery within a 60-minute time slot, using a new fleet of delivery vans to reach its customers, as it again looks to disrupt the on-demand space as it did with the app's initial launch.
Announcing the changes on Friday, Shoprite said that the product offering now extended beyond groceries to include larger items, ranging from camping and outdoor gear to small appliances, baby products, toys, kitchen and home electronics, to gardening and pool equipment at supermarket prices.
It said delivery would be free during the beta testing period and would remain free for Xtra Savings Plus subscribers.
The new app is currently available to customers living in the following areas in Cape Town: Kuils River, Brackenfell, Durbanville, Bellville, Goodwood, Edgemead, Gardens, Sea Point and Camps Bay.
Shoprite said that similar to the initial launch of Sixty60 in 2019, the national rollout will follow a phased approach after beta testing to ensure a seamless customer experience.
